Why visit the province of Alicante?

he province of Alicante is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Valencian Community, due to the diversity of activities on offer all year round, regardless of the season.

And the fact is that the province of Alicante has more tourist attractions than its renowned beaches, located in a true paradise and a place where you can relax and enjoy the sun and sand to the full. In fact, Alicante is the fourth most mountainous province in Spain, with more than 175 mountains, trails and natural springs, around 45 of which are more than 1,000 metres high.

However, if you want to plan a good route around Alicante there are thousands of activities to do. Keep in mind that you can expect diverse cultures and traditions, plenty of gastronomy, parties and nightlife and a unique atmosphere created by the locals among other things to highlight.

Beaches, islands, coves and other wonders

For sun and sea lovers, Alicante will undoubtedly be one of the provinces they will like to visit the most because it has a great choice and variety of beaches, small islands and coves.

San Juan Beach

It is one of the most popular beaches, much visited by tourists and locals alike. In fact, many people who live in the city centre move there with the intention of spending the whole summer season there. It has a large extension: about 2900 metres long and 60 metres (on average) wide. The sand is fine and the sea water is, almost every day, pleasantly warm with little swell.

Cova Tallada

The Cova Tallada is located in Jávea. It is a cave created by humans who extracted material for the subsequent construction of the castle of Denia. Although it is not natural, it is a beautiful cave open to the sea with several ways to get there. One of the best ways to visit the Cueva Tallada is by taking a kayak excursion from Denia.

Cala Granadella

Often awarded as the best beach in Spain, Cala Granadella, located in the south of Jávea, is one of the jewels of the Costa Blanca. This rocky beach is tucked between cliffs and has crystal clear blue waters. While you enjoy the day, you can snorkel or kayak to one of the 2 caves located nearby.

Cala Moraig and the Cave of the Arches

Cala Moraig is another of the mythical beaches of the province of Alicante, located between Jávea and Moraira. The main attraction is not the rocky beach itself, but the Cueva de los Arcos (Cova dels Arcs). Becoming one of the emblematic places of the Valencian coastline, the cave is made up of three arches and inside each of them begins a route of several caves that is usually a favourite of divers who visit these places.

Benitatxell Cliffs Route

The perfect combination of beach and hiking. The Benitatxell Cliffs Route connects the well-known Cala Moraig with the wild Cala Llebeig with its crystal clear waters. As you walk along the path, which is not too difficult, you will be able to see breathtaking views of the cliffs.

Isla de Tabarca

Located almost 5 km off the coast of Alicante, the island of Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Valencian Community. Surrounded by a Mediterranean marine reserve, Tabarca has a unique natural beauty. It can be reached from several points along the coast, but the cheapest and quickest way is from Santa Pola.

For lovers of hiking: Alicante’s mountains

La Serrella

La Serrella is a mountain without precedent in the province of Alicante. A long mountain range, with several peaks over 1,300 metres high. The most outstanding are the Recingle Alt, the Plà de la Casa, and the Mallà del Llop.

El Puig Campana

Considered the “summit of summits” in the province of Alicante, although it is the second highest (surpassed by the 1,558 of Aitana). The more than 1,000 metres of ascent make it one of the most demanding in the region, but at the same time the most exciting for experienced climbers.

The Serra de Bernia

At an altitude of 1,126 metres, the Serra de Bernia has several trails of varying difficulty to reach the summit. Once at the top there is a cave that has a hole that can be seen through the mountain itself, on both sides. Bernia is a very picturesque mountain range, with moderate difficulty.

Alicantean culture and traditions

If there’s one thing that will never happen in Alicante, it’s that you’ll never get bored of anything. Every month, and sometimes every week, there is a wide variety of activities to do in the province: festivals, fiestas, traditions… From the popular Hogueras festival in June to the Easter Week in April and Carnival in February. No matter what time of year you visit Alicante, it’s always a good time to celebrate and have fun.

In addition, Alicante’s gastronomy is full of Mediterranean flavours. Rice dishes and Valencian paella, potato omelette, a variety of tapas to suit all tastes, and plenty of fish are the staples of the locals’ favourite diet. Specifically the areas of the Barrio and the Port of Alicante are the most famous due to the great variety of beer bars, pubs and bars. As for the offer, there is a little bit of everything and for all tastes, very varied.

As you can see, there is no excuse for not visiting the province of Alicante at any time of the year. A multitude of plans, adventure, leisure and fun await you. And if you need quality accommodation, visit our campsites.
